Tapestry for Men! - IMAGES to suit the Male Interest!

This website is now discontinued

It all began when Alan Rowntree was searching for cross-stitch patterns which had subjects of interest to men. The choice of subjects available was very limited, so he set about finding a solution. His search also found that there was an ever-increasing number of men who have the skill and interest to capture favourite images of cars, motorbikes, planes, ships, family photos, pets, themes ('Fools & Horses', 'Dr Who', 'F1', 'Moto GP', 'Premier League') on a tapestry or cross-stitch.

Utilising 45 years of experience in the design of computer programs and in website design and management, he combined 10 years of tapestry experience to produce this website to offer what he discovered for the benefit of others.

Whether you do tapestry or cross-stich yourself, or you know of someone who does, we hope this website will be useful to you.

Your picture made into a pattern

This website provides the service to produce for you a detailed 'counted cross-stitch' pattern from any favourite image you would like to send us. (Subject to decency of content!). From this you can create a lovely tapestry. The pattern will be sized to your exact requirements to fit your chosen frame.

Information we will need from you

  • The width you want the final tapestry to be
  • The 'stitches-per-inch' you want to work to (14pt, 16pt or 18pt)
  • How many colours you want to use (25, 50 or 75)
  • You will receive from us (for just £15)

  • The detailed pattern from which you will work
  • A coloured printout draft of the final result
  • A list of all the colours used indicating the pattern symbol and the DMC colour code and the number of skeins of each.

    Also optionally available from us

  • A full set of silk skeins selected to complete your tapestry
  • The appropriate base material (14pt, 16pt or 18pt) cut to the correct size for your tapestry
  • A wooden frame to work on (7in, 9in 12in or 15in)
  • A set of 5 tapestry needles
  • A set of 2 needle threaders
  • An ideal foam base-board to mount your pattern
  • A box of 50 coloured-headed pins for picking out the colours on your pattern board
  • Any separate silk skeins you might like to add

    How to order your pattern

First email us HERE and tell us about your picture and indicate
  • The required WIDTH of your final tapestry in inches to fit your frame (the height will be calculated from your supplied image keeping the proportions the same).
  • The stitch size you want to use in stiches per inch (14, 16 or 18). (The more stitches the clearer your picture, but more skilled work)
  • The number of colours you want to use (25,50 or 75). (The more colours the clearer your picture, but more needle thread changes)
  • Whether you would like us to supply the Silks and fabric at the same time. (This is much more economic than ordering separately.)
  • Attach your digital picture to the email -- or indicate you are posting it to us - and we will let you know our address.
  • When we receive your email and picture we will ..

Send you completely free an acknowledgement email and offer any design recommendations. Our email will also contain a hyperlink to take you directly to your relevant page on this website where you can order your pattern, and decide what, if anything, you would like to order in addition to the pattern. (Orders valued at over £25 in total are delivered carriage free.)

    Silk skeins

We supply full DMC silk skeins only. Because of our buying power we can offer full skeins at very low prices, so we do not cut skeins down to fit patterns. If you need 50 colours you get 50 skeins. If your pattern requires more than one skein of one colour, you get the extra one free!
